How to Search Civil Dockets
The Somervell County Court page sends County Court civil, probate, and guardianship searches to re:SearchTX. District civil and family records belong to the Somervell County District Clerk, whose page links to Tyler's Search Hearings and Court Records. Justice Court keeps eviction, small-claims, and other justice civil matters. The court type is the first search field even when it does not appear as a box on the screen.
Collect the party name, case number if known, approximate filed date, and likely case category. County Court civil reports show the pattern YY-213-CCCV-NNNNN, but that pattern must not be assumed for District Court. If an online search is incomplete, Somervell County provides clerk counters, phone contacts, written mail routes, and County Clerk office computers for index and image review.
- Identify County Court, District Court, or Justice Court from the case type and notice.
- Use re:SearchTX for county civil, probate, or guardianship matters. Use Tyler or the District Clerk for district matters.
- Search by case number when possible, or use the party name and date filters to narrow a name search.
- Open Case Details and read filings, hearings, and events in date order. Check for a newer event after any reset.
- Request the exact document from the custodial clerk if its image is absent, and state when a certified copy is needed.
Somervell Civil Dockets on re:SearchTX
re:SearchTX is the statewide document-access layer Somervell County names for County Court civil proceedings. Its official guide describes Cases and Hearings tabs, a Search By menu, Advanced options, Search and Reset controls, and sorting by filed date or case number. Results can be exported. Wildcards are supported for some judge, attorney, and party-name searches. Access to a document can depend on a user's role and the document's status.
Opening a case description may reveal the case number and type, court location, filing date, parties, attorneys, judicial officers, filings, hearings, and events. A hearing type may open more detail. The event view can list a date, event, comments, document name, page count, price, and whether the item is free. Public document purchases are priced at $0.10 per page with a $1 minimum, and purchased items remain available for up to 30 days.
The official re:SearchTX quick-reference guide documents these controls. A free case search can still lead to a priced document, and a purchased file is not the same as a clerk-certified copy.
What a Civil Docket Shows
A Somervell County civil docket may show the case number, category, filed date, location, case caption, status, parties, attorneys, and judicial officer. The event register records what was filed, scheduled, or decided. Its wording may include a petition, citation, return, answer, motion, order, notice of setting, judgment, nonsuit, or dismissal for want of prosecution. A short event line is an index to activity, not always the pleading or order itself.
| Case Number | County civil reports use YY-213-CCCV-NNNNN; district numbering must be checked in Tyler. |
|---|---|
| Parties | Plaintiffs and defendants, or petitioners and respondents, may appear with attorneys when available. |
| Filings | The event may name a petition, answer, citation, return, exhibit, or other document and may list pages or price. |
| Hearings | Date and hearing type may appear, with judge, place, and time depending on the source. |
| Outcome | A judgment, nonsuit, default, DWOP, or other disposition can appear, followed by later enforcement or appeal entries. |
Somervell County's January 2026 OCA report adds Style, Case Number, Activity Date, and Activity Type. It also groups actions such as New Cases Filed and Cases Appealed from Lower Courts. Those report labels help read the civil docket but do not replace the case file.
Somervell Civil Docket Routes
Somervell County divides civil work among three court levels. The District Clerk supports District Court civil and family matters. The County Clerk keeps County Civil, Probate, and Guardianship records. Justice Court handles evictions, small claims, and justice civil claims up to $20,000. A city ordinance case is municipal rather than an ordinary county civil action.
| Civil Matter | Court or Custodian | Search Route |
|---|---|---|
| District civil or family | District Court and District Clerk | Tyler link, clerk counter, phone, or written request |
| County civil | County Court and County Clerk | re:SearchTX, office computer, or clerk request |
| Probate or guardianship | County Court and County Clerk | re:SearchTX or County Clerk |
| Eviction, small claim, justice civil | Justice of the Peace | JP clerk and records channel |
Jurisdiction can turn on case type and the amount in dispute. When the boundary is unclear, call the clerk before relying on a portal result. The wrong search path can make a public Somervell County civil docket look missing.
Types of Civil Cases on the Docket
The Somervell County civil docket covers more than one kind of dispute. Contract, debt, property, and injury claims may fall in County Court or District Court based on jurisdiction. Family cases generally route to District Court. Probate and guardianship sit with County Court, while the JP has a distinct lower-court civil docket.
- Contract, debt, property, injury, and other general civil disputes.
- Family matters filed with the District Clerk.
- Probate and guardianship proceedings kept by the County Clerk.
- Evictions, small claims, and justice civil matters in the JP docket.
- Appeals from lower courts when they reach the proper county court layer.
Case category and court location should be confirmed before reading the event list. A CCCV code identifies a County Court civil category in the OCA report. It does not label every civil cause filed in Somervell County.
Somervell Civil Docket Sequence
A civil register usually begins with a petition or complaint. Citation is then issued, service is returned, and an answer or waiver may follow. Parties and counsel can be added. Discovery disputes, motions, orders, and notices of setting appear as later events. Each entry should be read with its date and document name.
Docket flow: Petition › Citation and Service › Answer › Motions and Settings › Trial or Ruling › Judgment
The record can continue after judgment. Abstracts, writs, garnishment, turnover, appeal, or satisfaction may create later events. A default, agreed judgment, nonsuit, or DWOP has a different legal effect, so the signed order matters more than a brief activity label.
Settings and Hearings on Civil Dockets
A Somervell County civil docket may show a hearing type, date, courtroom, judicial officer, and related party or case detail. re:SearchTX offers a Hearings tab when data is available. Tyler Search Hearings is useful for District Court dates. The county calendar has displayed the label “249th Civil Docket,” but its public event summary may omit a party, cause number, time, room, or judge.
Read the events in order and use the newest future setting. A notice of setting shows an intended hearing or trial. It is not the result. A continuance, reset, or pass can leave the old date in the register while a new event becomes controlling. The full Somervell County court calendar gives a second date check, but uncertain details should be confirmed with the clerk or court coordinator.
Somervell Civil Docket Terminals
The County Clerk says the public may use office computers to search indices and images. This is a key fallback when a Somervell County civil docket appears online but its document does not. The County Clerk is at 102 NE Vine Street in Glen Rose and can be reached at 254-897-4427. Main office hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Call before a fee-dependent trip because another county page displays a slightly different Friday closing time.
District civil records use the District Clerk at 101 NE Barnard Street, phone 254-898-3971. Written district requests can go to P.O. Box 1309. County Clerk mail goes to P.O. Box 1098. A useful request names the court, case number, exact document, and approximate date, then states whether a plain or certified copy is needed. Phone contact can confirm the proper office, but the clerk may need a written request and payment before producing pages.
Note: Somervell County began scanning clerk records in August 2005, so an older missing image may still exist outside the current online set.
Somervell Civil Docket Copy Costs
Portal price, clerk copy fee, and filing fee are separate charges. re:SearchTX public documents cost $0.10 per page with a $1 minimum. The District Clerk fee schedule lists a $5 search when no cause number is supplied and identifies separate copy and certification charges. Somervell County links a distinct civil and probate fee document for County Court matters, but the research could not safely extract its current amounts. Confirm those charges with the County Clerk instead of applying the district schedule.
| Item | Published Amount or Rule |
|---|---|
| re:SearchTX public document | $0.10 per page, $1 minimum |
| District search without a docket number | $5 |
| County civil or probate filing fee | Confirm the linked current schedule with the County Clerk |
| Certified copy | Ask the custodial clerk to quote certification and page charges |
A portal download is a plain electronic file unless the clerk says otherwise. When a court, agency, or other recipient calls for an official copy, request certification by document name and cause number.
Public Access to Civil Dockets
Texas generally favors public access to civil court records, but access depends on the record and custodian. A Somervell County civil docket can remain searchable while a sensitive document is redacted, restricted, or unavailable online. Juvenile and protected family material follow stricter rules. “Not found online” does not by itself prove sealing.
Key Rules:
Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 76a presumes civil court records open and sets standards for a sealing order.
Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 21c requires sensitive identifiers and personal data to be omitted or redacted in covered filings.
Texas Rule of Judicial Administration 12 governs access to judicial records within its stated scope and exceptions.
For an online gap, ask the County Clerk, District Clerk, or JP clerk whether the file is restricted, not digitized, or available only through a counter or written request. Somervell County's administrative open-records route is also published, though a court file may require a request to its judicial custodian. Certification must come from the clerk that holds the original record.
